Q: What’s one thing you want people to know about you or your role at pair?
A: In addition to programming I also do analytics work. If you have any questions involving data or statistics, let me know!
Q: What TV show are you addicted to right now?
A: I’m currently watching The Office, which shows you how up to date I am with TV. I love it! Dwight is my favorite character so far.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I play fingerstyle acoustic guitar, and my long-term goal is to play jazz, as I love improvisation. I also sing a style of music known as Byzantine chant in my church choir, which has a completely different tonality and method of notation than western music. It was actually my attempt at writing software for Byzantine chant that led to me becoming a programmer, although I never did finish that project! I also like to play video games.
Q: Where did you go to school?
A: I have a B.A. in Religious Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, 2004. I focused on Soto Zen and Jodo Shin Buddhism. And just last summer, I graduated with an M.S. in Business Data Analytics from West Virginia University.
Q: What’s the coolest thing about your job?
A: Deriving insights from building statistical models.
Q: What’s your secret talent or skill?
A: I can speak Japanese. Well, I took 5 semesters of it in undergrad and forget most of it!
Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: Wolverine’s super healing. Then I could do things like skateboard and not get a concussion!
Q: If you were an animal, what would you be?
A: Probably an octopus. It’d be neat to explore the sea and to have nine brains.
Q: What’s the nerdiest/coolest thing you do in your free time?
A: Dungeons and Dragons. You can decide whether that’s nerdy, cool, or both.
